When our son was released our family was able to go the mission offices to pick him up.
This was another cool experience that most people do not have.
We sat in the Transfer meeting with all of the missionaries from the mission and were able to
watch them as they received their new assignments for the next transfer.
It was fun to watch them meet and hug each other and go to the back of the chapel for a
new companion picture together.
Our son sat and waited and then he was the last missionary in the room called and the mission
President announced that we (his parents) were his new companions.
We were able to meet his previous companion so that was nice too.
On the way home, we drove through all of his assigned mission areas and he was able to
show us the houses he lived in and the people he was teaching.
Our missionary was released by the Stake President because he would be home for over 3 weeks before going to the MTC.
If his call to leave had been sooner (within a week) he would most likely have not been released as a missionary.
A BIG part of me wished that he could just quickly go back out on his mission.
It is hard to keep up mission rules (getting up at 6:30 and going to bed early) when you are
living at home.
However, we were able to all go on several family trips while he was home with us. So the up -side
is that I'm happy he was there to make the memories with us and be together.
Overall though, it would have been easier on him to go his new mission call sooner.
Another result of not going immediately to his new mission was that he lived out of his suitcases
while he was home. Of course that meant we then had to repack it all again.
There wasn't anything new on the list that we needed to purchase.
He also knew things that worked well and didn't
One thing he did purchase was a strap for his scripture case. One of his companions had
used his case that was and it worked well for him.
Before his new mission our son received his endowments and then was set apart again by the Stake President for his new mission call
